Sober Enough

Friday night ended at the crack of dawn. It started at Elijah's in Fort Green where there were just about as many stringed instruments as people kicking back on the couches. It ended with a long walk through Williamsburg back up to Greenpoint just before the sun came up. At Elijah's we were drinking whiskey and jugs of wine to celebrate his birthday, passing the guitars, basses and mandolins around to anyone who was feeling a song. Drew Nix and Elijah are in a band called Elephant Army, they got an album coming out soon that they recorded down at Sun Studios. Drew wrote this song, and, like he tells me at the end of the recording, it's the first track on their upcoming album.

Most of my posts have audio recordings linked to them that you can listen to by following the red highlighted "Click Here" link at the bottom of the post. Some of the recordings are of people I come across on the street making music, some are of my own tunes and experiments. I always carry a little microphone that attaches to my ipod and makes big, high quality sound files. A little inconvenient carrying so many gadgets, but to me it's worth the clumsy pockets to capture great spontaneous music.
